RESEARCH

Flute Repertoire from Japan

For as long as I can remember, I have been intrigued by lesser-known works ("hidden gems") in the flute repertoire. I would browse the music library, order rare scores through WorldCat, and employ other research methods to find obscure but delightful flute works. Diversity in programming music is extremely important to me, and I particularly enjoy performing and sharing compositions by historically underrepresented composers.

My doctoral research focuses on flute sonatas written by Japanese composers Ikuma Dan, Hikaru Hayashi, and Akira Tamba. Additionally, I include an appendix containing hundreds of accompanied and unaccompanied flute works by over 200 Japanese composers!

In the future, I plan to record and present many of these works. Stay tuned for more!

Please check out the link to my research document below and feel free to contact me with any inquiries. I love to go on "treasure hunts" for information about specific composers and compositions! I would also be happy to recommend pieces for your next performance!
